About Sam
Sam Laishley, LMHCA
You know yourself best. I’m here to help clear what’s in the way.
Hi, I’m Sam (he/him). I’m a mental health counselor, and I’ve spent more than two years working with adults from a wide range of backgrounds in both individual and group therapy.
I believe you know yourself best. My job is to bring the tools and questions that help us figure out what’s getting in the way, then support your healing and how you manage day-to-day life. I’ll offer ideas that might be different from your own, so you have more options and can decide what’s right for you.
My approach is rooted in harm reduction and disability justice. We start by clearing the obstacles in your way and work together to make growth feel more within reach. I meet you where you are, and that includes the practical side of life: routines, life skills, and managing what needs managing.
I draw from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). As a neurodivergent person myself, I put real effort into understanding what works for you, and we build creative, realistic solutions that fit your life.
I specialize in anxiety, depression, OCD, and identity, and I’ve done meaningful work with clients exploring their gender, sexuality, and neurodivergence. If you’re looking for a counselor who’s collaborative, creative, and meets you where you are, I’d be glad to connect.
Background & experience
I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) in Washington State with a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Heritage University. I’ve spent my career in community mental health, most recently as an outpatient clinician at Catholic Community Services of Western Washington, and I’ve built a niche supporting trans, queer, and neurodivergent clients. I co-created a DBT group for neurodivergent clients and previously volunteered with Trans Lifeline, offering peer and crisis support.
Sam is completing his clinical supervision toward independent licensure under the supervision of Jasmine Gregory, LICSW.
